ABOUT DIANE
Diane Whalley is an emerging self-taught abstract artist, based in Cornwall. She paints intuitively from both personal reflections and the imagination, often using playful gestures which dance over the canvas bringing positivity, fun, joy and discussion. Personal life experiences of sudden loss, moving to Cornwall and travelling the Mediterranean by sailboat, have greatly influenced the artist and her process for painting. Starting with a thought, idea, memory or emotion, each piece emerges guided by intuition and imagination, often resulting with vibrant visual narratives. She frequently paints over previously created artworks with glimpses of colours and forms beneath the final image.
After graduating with a BA(hons) in graphic design, Diane spent a number of years in design and PR, before she finally began her journey with painting in 2016, but only full time since 2019. Demand for her work escalated after exhibiting at the Affordable Art Fair, Battersea early 2020. Now working from her garden studio at her home on the outskirts of Fowey she continues to draw inspiration from the surrounding countryside, landscape and coastal life in Cornwall, her travels and memories of her family Mediterranean adventure.
She has exhibited across the UK and is currently represented by several UK galleries. Her work can be found in private collections in the UK and around the world.
