ABOUT Jane
Born in 1963 to artist parents in North Yorkshire, Jane Kell is a Brisith painter currently based in London. She has a degree in the History and Theory of Art and started painting in 2010 after working for many years in publishing and public relations, including roles as Head of Press at the National Gallery and PR director at Phaidon Press.
Jane is primarily an abstract painter and colourist using oils to paint directly onto the canvas with no preliminary drawing. She works initially with thinned down paint to map out the space, and then applies thicker impasto layers to build up the picture, sometimes using rags soaked with turps to wipe off sections of paint and create movement on the canvas.
