ABOUT SARAH
Sarah Humphrey is a natural science illustrator based in Cornwall. Specialising in Botanical Art, carving a career into a niche genre, and working consistently since graduating from the Falmouth School of Arts in 1998.
Focusing on botanical subject matter Sarah works extensively across a range of applications from publishing and research to fine art. She approaches her work with intellectual curiosity and academic scrutiny with theme and adherence to scientific accuracy being of paramount importance. Employing a visual language that has great aesthetic sensibility, her traditional paintings rendered with a unique combination of Victorian Age stylisation in a 21st century context.
Her work is strongly focused on capturing the light and delicate details within her botanical paintings. Behind many of Sarah’s artworks there are degrees of compositional placement where she works closely with Fibonacci sequences and sacred geometry to carefully draw the viewer into intrinsic parts of her paintings
Sarah has exhibited with prestigious organisations, including the Royal College of Physicians (London) and the Royal Horticultural Society. In 2018 Sarah was awarded an RHS Gold Medal for her collection of ‘Medicinal Fruits and their Symbiosis with Pollinators’.
